PC Men’s Basketball to Face UMass in a Charity Game
All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Rhode Island Free Clinic and Baystate Children’s Hospital.
It was announced yesterday (Sept. 9) that the Providence College men’s basketball team will host UMass in a charity exhibition game presented by Amica Mutual Insurance Company on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 4 p.m. The game will be played at the Amica Mutual Pavilion. All net proceeds from the contest will help support the Rhode Island Free Clinic (RIFC) and Baystate Children’s Hospital.
Founded in 1998, the Rhode Island Free Clinic’s mission is to provide free, comprehensive medical care and preventive health services to adults who have no health insurance and cannot afford those services, and to serve as an educational training site for aspiring health care professionals.
“The Rhode Island Free Clinic is an organization we proudly support,” said Bryanca Colvin, Assistant Vice President of Sales and Client Services at Amica and RIFC board member. “The clinic’s founding mission – to provide free health care to Rhode Island’s uninsured adults – is so simple, yet unfortunately still so needed. We can help change that. Through the clinic, we can have a greater impact in service to community and humanity.”
Tickets will go on sale on Monday, Sept. 9, and are priced at $15 each for Friars season ticket holders and wait-list members. Season ticket holders will have the ability to buy their specific seat(s) until Friday, Sept. 27. Non-season ticket holders will be able to purchase tickets for $25 each.
Students tickets are $5 and will go sale on Monday, Oct. 21.
Any fans interested in purchasing tickets can visit Friars.com or call the Providence College Ticket Office at 401-865-GOPC.
The Friars return nine players from last year’s squad, which posted a 21-14 mark overall and a 10-10 record in Big East play.
The Friars and the Minutemen will meet for the first time since Dec. 7, 2018. The Friars have posted a 25-9 mark all-time versus UMass, including a 12-3 record in Providence.
This charity game was approved by an NCAA waiver. On Aug. 1, 2024, the NCAA Committee for Legislative Relief approved a recommendation issued by the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee to permit an institution to conduct both of its two permissible exhibition games in the sport of basketball against a Division I institution for the purpose of raising funds for catastrophic events (as defined by the Federal Emergency Management Agency), social justice initiatives and/or general medical expenses (e.g., American Cancer Society, local health emergency).
