Amica and Celtics Help Fulfill 12-Year-Old’s Dream

02/24/2025 BOSTON, MA

Amica was proud to help fulfill the dream of a local child with a love of basketball, thanks to a little help from the Boston Celtics.

Working with Coventry, Rhode Island-based A Wish Come True, Amica and the Celtics arranged to welcome Owen, a 12-year-old from Sterling, Connecticut, whose favorite basketball player just happens to be Jayson Tatum, to sit courtside along with his family and cheer on the Celtics as they took on the Orlando Magic at TD Garden on Friday, January 17.

Owen has Fanconi Syndrome, a rare kidney disorder that damages major organs. His treatment involves a daily regimen of 52 oral pills, hourly eye drops and nightly shots to manage the disease. Outside of basketball, Owen is an Xbox gamer and enjoys playing board games with his parents and two sisters.

Because of Amica’s partnership with the Boston Celtics, Owen had a true behind-the-scenes VIP experience that included a meet-and-greet with Jayson Tatum along with other Celtics personnel, as well as custom jerseys for the entire family.

“Amica is dedicated to giving back to the people and communities we serve, and we're grateful for our partners at the Boston Celtics for helping make Owen’s dream a reality,” said Amica President and CEO Ted Shallcross. "Supporting organizations like A Wish Come True is a critical part of our mission to build enduring relationships."

Mary-Kate O’Leary, Executive Director of A Wish Come True, stated, “Working with an empathetic company like Amica is exactly what we hope for when we coordinate a wish activity. They understood how important it was to provide an experience for the entire family to enjoy, as a critical illness impacts everyone in a home. I know this firsthand as my brother passed away from Leukemia when I was 11 and he was 7.”

Continued O’Leary, “We are very grateful to Amica and the Boston Celtics for creating this incredible experience for this amazing family. A Wish Come True will continue to be there to support Owen and his family for every step of the way in this journey.”
