Wedding and Event Insurance
Wedding and event insurance is a policy that protects your investment in a specific event. It helps cover your costs if you’re found liable for an injury to an attendee caused during your event or are responsible for property damage at the venue you’re renting.
Amica partners with WedSafe and Private Event Insurance for coverage for your most important events. Take part in your event, knowing you’re covered if the unexpected happens.
Understanding wedding and event insurance coverage
When it comes to your big day, you have coverage options to help your event be stress-free. Depending on your event, you can choose cancelation/postponement, liability and property damage insurance or both. Your venue may even require some form of insurance if you want to hold the event there.
Event cancelation or postponement insurance
No matter how diligent you are or reputable your vendors promise to be, event mishaps can occur. This could lead to financial loss for you. With cancelation/postponement insurance, your event is covered if your venue or vendors go out of business or fail to show, severe weather prevents you from holding the event, you or a family member becomes ill and more.
Cancelation/postponement coverage may also include insurance for wedding jewelry or clothing damaged during the event.
Liability and property damage insurance
Liability and property damage insurance is designed to protect and reimburse for certain losses from accidents that occur during the setup, event or takedown. Wedding insurance may cover the wedding rehearsal as well. Coverage includes damage to the facility caused by a guest or vendor, bodily injury to guests and alcohol-related accidents.

Common questions about wedding and event insurance
Many venues require the event holder to purchase their own liability insurance, which is designed to protect and reimburse for certain losses from accidents or property damage that occur before, during and after the event.
If alcohol will be served at the event, the venue may also require a host liquor liability provision, which extends the liability coverage to include alcohol-related incidents.
The ideal time to purchase insurance is at the beginning of your planning process, before you make any significant deposits. Typically, cancelation insurance cannot be purchased within 15 days of the event, and liability insurance cannot be purchased within 24 hours of the event.
Yes, both WedSafe and Private Event Insurance extends cancelation/postponement coverage to events taking place in (and on cruise ships departing from) Canada, Puerto Rico or any U.S. territory.
For an additional surcharge, cancelation/postponement insurance may cover events taking place in (and on cruise ships departing from) the UK, Mexico, Bahamas, Bermuda and the Caribbean Islands (excluding Cuba), as long as the insured is over 18 and resides within the U.S.
Some excluded events include athletic competitions, petting zoos, political and activist events, concerts and parades. This isn’t an exhaustive list, and if you have questions about a specific event, please reach out to WedSafe or Private Event Insurance.
